NCAA Baseball Tournament: Head Injury

The NCAA Baseball tournaments are underway in various conferences. Right now, coaches and players alike are focusing on what could prove to be a really big safety issue down the road. Matt Hiseman of the University of San Francisco will head out on Sunday to pitch. The fact that he is pitching isn’t that big of the deal, the fact that he has sustained two head injuries while on the mount is definitely a big deal.

For Hiseman, he will have his eyes wide open even as he attempts to regain his balance coming out of a long stride. Hisman is making the news because he has been hit in the head twice by a ball which a batter connected with. The NCAA Baseball games are tough on everyone, but no one ever wants to think about the dangers outside of the normal twisted ankles and torn rotator cups. However, a head shot is way more dangerous than either of those injuries.

For Hiseman, hitting the mound is definitely a serious matter. He, even if no one else does, understands the dangers. Five years ago he took a shot that damaged his sinus cavities. Now, NCAA baseball fans are waiting for him to take the mound again knowing that just three months ago he was hit again and had his skull fractured and suffered from bleeding in his brain.
